Have you ever wondered what God is like?
Surely you’ve gazed up at the puffy clouds and wondered how all of this Creation came to be. Maybe it was while viewing the top of a snowy mountain or hearing the roar of the ocean waves, crashing against rocks. Perhaps it was in a simple, everyday moment in your home when all was quiet, too quiet.
In each and all of these spaces, God is present. This all-powerful, all-knowing Creator is on our couch, in our neighborhood and even across the universe. And, what I still can’t get my head around, is the fact that you and I are created in God’s image. Somehow, we are like God! Amazing.
One of my favorite writers is Rachel Held Evans. Even through her short years on this Earth, she made an impact on people’s faith journeys by asking deep questions and voicing magnificent observations about God, us and this wild gift of life that we share. One of her last projects was a children’s book dedicated to her small children, and it was recently released–What Is GOD Like?; truth be told, this book is as much for adults as kids. Below is a video of me reading the book. I encourage you to hear the words, ponder the ideas in it and–if you love it–pick up a copy for someone beloved in your life (or gift your beloved self!).
Maybe God is a bold artist, perhaps a quiet gardener, maybe God takes delight in acting as the CEO of this entire Creation. There is so much space to wonder what God is like. At the end of the day, God’s love, safety and presence remind us of who we are and whose we are. And that is a blessing.
