Can we do all of Advent in a day?
My favorite songwriter, Ellis Paul, wrote a tune about seeing Paris in only a day…and how scandalous that is for all of the French historical figures looking at two silly Americans cramming so much in 24 hours. In the following video from Sparkhouse, this kid- and adult-friendly short video talks about trying to fit all of Advent in one day. This is the curriculum that our Elementary BFG has used before, and the videos are fun and quirky for all ages. Hope you enjoy this as we begin our Advent season.
Advent = Anticipation
As you can see from the video, the whole purpose of Advent is a SEASON, something to play out over weeks, not simply one day. So let us embrace the journey and the time together. What are your hopes for Advent this year? What are you waiting for? Several of us at church are waiting on the arrival of more than just a Jesus baby this year, so it is exciting and anxiety-producing as we anticipate what is to come. We hope, we wait, we live.
Advent Kits
If you haven’t already, be sure and pick up your family’s Advent Kit. You can do this as a unit or share it with your neighbor, friend or loved ones. We hope this enhances your Advent Season Experience as we all draw nearer to the Christ child.

Prayer: God, as we embrace this new season of Advent, may we lean into Hope. May we bravely face the possibilities that you will surprise us and overwhelm us with your love. In this space of openness we can truly feel loved and included. Perhaps we can lean on you to open our hearts to new people and embrace longtime relationships that were in hibernation before. Offer us new opportunities to love and to be loved. Amen.
