November 27: First Sunday of Advent + Blessing Bags!

This Sunday: Make Blessing Bags in BFG (Kids & Youth)! All are welcome to come and make Blessing Bags together for those we see in need on street corners and in our neighborhoods. Want to bring something? We always need Gallon zipper bags, granola bars, travel tissue packs, chapstick (sealed), pairs of new athletic socks, etc. Thank you!


Holiday Luminary Walk

Dec 3- Luminary Walk at Overland Park Arboretum

Join us for an evening of light and wonder on December 3 at 5:40! Pick up tickets at the Front Desk ($10/person or $20/household); hurry before we run out!

September 23 — Adults Night Out and Kids Night In!

  • Adults (parents & non-parents) are invited to a fun evening at Somerset Wine & Cider Bar (Rosehill) in Martin City for live music, food trucks and fun. (Details to follow)
  • Childcare (ages 0-12) at church from 5:30-9:00 pm; RSVP to Laurel by 9/15.

 

 

October 2 – World Communion Sunday 

  • Children and youth read litany and present breads to altar as part of this memorable annual time of global Communion.

October 16 – Children’s Sabbath

  • Children lead at Holmeswood, and this day is global focus shared with faith communities around the world. Started and resourced by the Children’s Defense Fund, “The National Observance of Children’s Sabbath, is a time for people of all faiths to unite in shared concern for children and common commitment to improving children’s lives and working for justice on their behalf.” 

October 30 – Trunk or Treat

  • Come one, come all – it is time to dress up and celebrate! While some of us will “dress up” our vehicles in a fun theme, trick or treaters and their families will go around and join in the fun of creativity and neighborhood connections.

November 6 – All Saints Sunday Our blessed Saints - All Saints Sunday 2019. — The Danish Lutheran Church  and Cultural Center of Southern California

  • Annually, we remember in Worship saints who have died in the last year, particularly church members and those making a difference in our community. A special activity for the children to give to families whose loved ones have died will be made and gifted, and this is also a time to talk about grief with children in a safe, age-appropriate way that will give families tools for conversations in the present and future.



August 19: Family Movie Night! [Friday]

  • Dinner at 6:00 pm, Mary Poppins begins at 6:30. Snacks will also be provided.
  • All are welcome; RSVP (please) in church office by Wedn, Aug 17.

 

August 28: Fall Kickoff Sunday

  • In 10:15 am Worship, children and youth will transition to their new classes with a special Ceremony.
  • Blessing of the Backpacks in Worship: All students bring their backpacks/tablets/lunchbags and receive a special gift to help remember God loves them and is with them all year long.

September 11 – Commitment Sunday Picnic

  • All-church lunch with an activity for kids to learn about stewardship and be a part of generous giving.

September 23 — Parents Night Out and Kids Night In!

Sunday, April 10: Palm Sunday and Reopening of Renovated Sanctuary! 

  • This will be a wonderful day of celebration and a new beginning…be sure to join!
  • NYC Mission Team will be selling Chris Cakes Pancake Mix before and after Worship April 10, 17, 24; in addition, an all-church Brunch provided by Chris Cakes (so you can sample the pancakes!) will be offered after Worship (Free).

Saturday, April 16: Easter Egg Hunt from 2:00-3:00 pm.

  • Ages 0-12 invited; youth are welcome

to help hide eggs (at 1:30 pm)

Sunday, April 17: Easter Sunday – Jesus is Risen!

Join us for a beautiful morning and two offerings for Worship:

  • 7:00 am Sunrise service at Mt. Moriah (on Holmes) – next to the mausoleum
  • 10:15 am Easter Worship at Holmeswood (in the sanctuary!) – this will be a joy-filled, flower-laden time to rejoice with our Hallelujahs!
  • BFGs at 9:00 am

October Mission Project: Collecting Housewares for Holmeswood’s Furniture Room
  • New or gently used and CLEAN housewares are welcomed. The Furniture Room is a Mission Space provided for Center families and area households who experience unplanned change and quickly need furniture and housewares. (Most recently, we have helped two families who were experiencing homelessness and saved up for an apartment! We have also helped victims of house fires, flooding, and families with new custody arrangements. Your donations help so much!) Drop off in the tall basket in the Galleria (main entrance).
  • Examples of donations we need: Toaster/toaster ovens; Microwave; Kitchen utensils, silverware, dishes; Sheet sets (twin, double, queen), pillows (gently used or new), towels (bath towels, hand towels, washcloths, kitchen towels); Small rugs; Chairs, desks (not too big–needs to fit in an apartment), dining sets, bed frames, gently used/new mattresses (all sizes), cribs, crib linens/mattress; lamps (table and floor).
  • Things we cannot accept: child car seats and carriers (safety requirements change too often); any houseware or furniture that is stained, broken, ripped or missing parts.
